Officer and Commitee Leader InformationWelcome from the Westfield PTO!As we start back to school, we would love to see new faces at our meetings, assisting with or even leading the many projects the PTO does for our students and staff throughout the year. Some of the projects can be done at home or a one-time-only commitment of an hour or two! Please read the list below and contact us if you are interested in any of these committees. A PTO officer or committee chairperson will contact you with more details. Dads/Grandpas: we need you too! --------------------------------------------------------------- Westfield PTO Committees:Back 2 School Bash: Plan our annual family get-together in September, including games, inflatables, face painting, balloon animals, dunk tank, food, and Kona Ice! Planning time over the summer and many opportunities for volunteers the night of event. Beautification: Coordinate school grounds cleanup and decoration with volunteers, two opportunities a year, 2-4 hours each time. Box Tops: Trimming and counting Box Tops. Ongoing throughout the year as needed. This can be done at home. Box Tops chair will create 2-3 Box Tops Blitzes throughout the year for fun contests for students to encourage collecting Box Tops. Class Packs: Organize on-line sales of school supplies for the following year. Conference Meals: Order catered meals for teachers for one evening during each of the two conference weeks, October and March. Homecoming Parade: Purchase candy/other small items to pass out on parade route, supervise students with other parents. Hy-Vee Cash 4 Students: Adding up Hy-Vee receipts, sending out email reminders throughout the year. Ongoing throughout the year as needed, can be done at home. Campaign runs from April 1st to March 31th of the following year. Kernels Westfield Night: Send out flyers, help hand out purchased tickets to families at Kernels stadium. Learning Night: Plan our annual learning night and coordinate volunteers. Have worked with The Science Center of Iowa and the Rockwell Collins Road Show in the past. Planning time and two hours the night of the event, usually end of February. Movie Night: Help plan movie night, pass out popcorn before the movie, and coordinate with volunteers. Planning time and one afternoon/night commitment, usually end of January. Open House: Meet and greet families while serving ice cream during the back-to-school open house in August. PTO officers also participate. One time only event. Fit and Fun Club: Plan weekly activities and coordinate volunteers to assist students during their activities at four weekly sessions in April. Volunteers can assist one time or all four sessions. Planning time plus four 1 ½ hour weekly sessions with students after school. Sock Hop: Contact DJ, order snacks, coordinate volunteers to decorate and clean-up the night of Sock Hop and man the snack stations in the cafeteria. Beginning of April. Many volunteer jobs available night of Sock Hop to assist committee chair. Staff Appreciation Luncheons: Set up Volunteer Spot for parents to bring in items for luncheon, and coordinate volunteers at school on day of luncheon. Two opportunities a year, mid-December and mid-May. Can have two different chairs for this. Planning time and setting up volunteer spot, as well as average 6 hours at school day of luncheon. Stride For Pride: Plan for day of Stride for Pride in September or October by ordering cups for water, reserving mascot costume, contacting art teacher for cup artwork, putting out Volunteer Spot for almost 100 volunteers needed, and being at school the day of Stride for Pride to coordinate volunteers. Volunteers help students with tally sheets as they run laps in the parking lot, pass out snacks/water after students are done running, and dress up in the Linn-Mar Lion costume and run/walk with the kids! Had a team of 3 co-chairs in past years to divvy up the responsibilities, 10-15 hours per co-chair average. Website Coordinator: Assist PTO President with any issues that may arise with maintaining the PTO website. Ongoing during year as needed. Window Decorator: Get creative by decorating the big window next to the cafeteria! Change the theme and scenery every month or couple of months (depending on your availability) to reflect a certain season or holiday. Many decorations already available at the school or new ones can be purchased within PTO budget. Yearbook: Create a yearbook with online software, email throughout year to request parents to submit pictures of their children to online portal. Ongoing throughout the year, over 40 hours. Many one-time only opportunities available to assist yearbook chair by taking and submitting pictures of events. Westfield PTO Officer Positions (each position may be filled by up to two individuals):President: Leads monthly meetings of general membership at the school and schedules monthly executive committee meetings, attends three meetings with the superintendent each school year, updates website and answers non-financial related emails. Vice-President: Assists president with as needed tasks and must be prepared to lead the monthly PTO general membership meeting in the president's absence. Treasurer: Responsible for all financial transactions and maintaining/updating the PTO budget as well as an end of the fiscal year audit. Secretary: Takes notes during monthly meetings and writes meeting minutes, prepares PTO information and submits it to the school secretary for the monthly Westfield e-newsletter.
